About Me

Crystal Rea is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist currently practicing teletherapy in the state of California. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology at the University of San Diego, and later earned her Masters of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at California State University, Long Beach.
While in her graduate program, Crystal worked with a variety of populations to further her experience in the mental health field. She received extensive training in trauma related work where she supported victims of crime and trauma. This included working with victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, child abuse, and assault. Crystal also worked in suicide prevention, where she conducted free workshops to raise awareness of suicide prevention and other mental health issues prevalent in college students such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-harm, and substance abuse. In this role, she also facilitated outreach events and workshops to destigmatize help seeking behaviors such as seeing a therapist. Lastly, she worked as a Resident Manager at a Transitional Housing Program where she worked with at-risk youth to include 18-24 year old females emancipated from foster care.
After completing her graduate program, Crystal continued her passion for helping others and received her license in Marriage and Family Therapy. Crystal then transitioned to working with military children and families. She used evidence based treatments to teach families a variety of skills such as communication, problem solving, managing deployments, goal setting, and emotional regulation. She conducted family sessions, couples sessions, and workshops for children who had a parent that was deployed.
Crystal specializes in working with military families and has a passion for working with children and adolescents. Crystal is now the Director of Clinical Operations at an adult residential program for Veterans. She works from the perspective that everyone is unique and resilient in their own way. She helps her clients to elicit current strengths that they later build on in their work together. She tailors her therapeutic approach to meet the needs of the individuals and families she works with. She has been trained in evidence based practices including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), and Prolonged Exposure (PE). She uses these treatment approaches along with other theoretical orientations to treat various mental health symptoms.
